Blues Hues

Barking Mad

Poor Sophie has been driven mad over the past week with what she perceive as Andy and I barking furiously at each other.....we have both had miserable coughs which seem to escalate at night.......one of us starts hacking which then sorts off the other AND then Sophie jumps on the bed and tried to get between us....which then keeps us awake....this visious circle is literally hacking us off!

Gender Benders

Women who have balanced children and careers (including the domestic engineer role) will agree that during those high energy sucking years (30s and 40s) that any activity that required the slighest burst of energy after 9pm is to be avoided....in fact almost unthinkable....AND that includes sex. Of course we loved our husbands in that tolerant sort of way that....oh well he takes the garbage out when its full, he fixed that leaky tap and he does sometimes amuse the children for those 15 minute segments where we can take a bath, make a phonecall, or breath through a simmering rage.....AND because they do allow these and can be rather sweet at times we have had to provide the occasional coital indulgence....AND occasional it usually is. Our husbands must make do with extra long showers the rest of the time or a late night Internet session when they are absolutely certain we are asleep.

Yet finally the kids are grown up and more-or-less off our hands, our careers have slowed down as we are not as anxious for  that promotion and recognition, we do not have the financial concerns of years past and we finally have the energy to enjoy a wild nights romp in the arms of her husbands. BUT what has happened....the "can't we just cuddle" role has jumped the fence. They are happy for a quick kiss and cuddle and a five minute interlude...they then feel all warm and fuzzy afterwards. We, the women on the other hand are now at the peak of our sexual desires and want some focused, interesting, slightly kinky sex which results in a blinding orgasm...and we insist on that...no faking allowed.

My friend has been married for over thirty years and still looks fabulous. She has worked hard at it and invested in a fabulous pair of breasts to boot. She just spent a small fortunte on some La Perla underwear...I emphasise a fortune!! Mrs Fabulous paraded that underwear around the bedroom five evenings in a row whilst her husband sat in bed reading.....HE DID NOT NOTICE.

I had a similar situation where we planning on going out to dinner and when I went to the bedroom to change. For fun I put on a sexy Playboy cop outfit with stilettos and walked out with sexy pursed lips. He just looked confused and said aren't you going to get cold going out in this......CLUELESS.

The more women I talk to, I find out this is a recurring theme......

WAKE UP MEN AND SMELL THE COFFEE!!!! Before you end up making for yourself every morning.

Nuns in Boots

Could not resist taking this shot whilst shopping in Boots today....had to be quick hence the blur. These two adorable nuns in furry hats were looking through the Beauty magazines and were visibly shocked at their findings......

There are times when the full breadth of your life can be pulled in to one special moment that makes the whole journey worthwhile. Thank you Charlotte for providing me that special moment.

The Fungi Boutique

We're in business.......the Fungi Boutique was a huge success. What enormous pressure having sold 10 places at sixty five pounds a head ($100)...a workshop, a walk, and a four course lunch.

The attendees were wonderful and appreciated the hand painted cookies with the mushrooms of vibrant colors, the apple fruit cake and hot tea and coffee. They were astounded when they returned from the walk and saw the table set so perfectly with matching china, wine glasses and then the wonderful courses that followed (what a bragger I am!!). Of course the wine helped the success immeasurably!!!

Here are some of our favourite photos.

Hampton Court

Yet another visit to Hampton Court to survey the grasslands for fungi. I think I am considered to my Andy's assistant...hmmm...or maybe intern as I am not being paid!

Here are some photos of the day, starting with the beautifully manicured palace gardens in the morning mist, and ending the horses I befriended whilst wandering through the paddocks.  The owner of these horses is none other than THE QUEEN.

Another London

Yet another long overdue post to bookmark a wonderful photography exhibition that Andy and I visited some weeks ago. Another London focused on photographs taken by well known visiting photographers between 1930 and 1980.

All of the photos were in black and white and captured simple moments in a London filled with transition from two wars, two major cultural revolutions...Hippie and Punk......I am using the Tates text below.....

"For these artists London was a foreign city, which they either visited briefly or settled in permanently, and they recorded and represented it in their own unique style and distinctive ways. Emblems of Britishness which might have been familiar to visitors such as pearly kings, red buses and bowler hats are documented alongside the urban poor surviving life in the city as pavement artists, beggars and buskers."

The special part for me is the realization that I was seeing the London my parents knew....the London I knew as a small child visiting my Grandmother in Kensington......something familiar yet long gone.......

I remember being awestruck by the vibrance of the late sixties....the Biba fashions...the wide eyed makeup...pale pink lips....the extravagant cars.....the rush of life.....the individualism which was embraced by the young and daring.....I am so lucky to have brushed life at this time!

Obama Wins!

If you are a Mitt Romney supporter please read no further......BECAUSE ........

I am thrilled with yesterdays victory and proud that my daughter exercised her constitutional right and voted for the first time (she was too young in 2008). I am particularly proud as she stood in a line for four hours along with the thousands of other voters in Florida and across the country to make her voice heard.

Of course Obama has not done a perfect job but to requote someone elses term, he had inherited a poisoned chalice and at least things are starting to turn around although slowly.

I am proud that the US has a president that embraces all genders, all age groups, and all colours regardless of sexual orientation. One of the most beautiful, classiest women I know is black, several of my dearest friends are gay and I believe our youth should be heard. I believe in taking care of the needy, providing everyone healthcare, protecting our planet and having a plan where everyone is considered.

I had to share this photo which is hilarious and catrches the euphoria of the win for Minneapolis Mayor R.T. Rybak. He goes crowd surfing with his mother Lorraine, after it was announced that President Barack Obama had won.

Good Luck Barack and we look forward to seeing Hilary achieve her victory in four years.
